Artist Statement

“My aim as a photographic artist is to share with others my experience of the world. It is a pleasure to draw attention to the kaleidoscopic wonderland of brilliant color and exuberant character that is embedded in even the simplest presence. I am equally driven to capture the spellbinding brilliance of a vast, multicolored sunset as I am to capture the alive integrity of a worn, rusted nail that has surrendered its’ form to the domination of time. In my eyes, both scenes are important, beautiful and indeed worthy of artistic representation.

While my work appears eclectic, each piece serves as an essential part of the whole; my ongoing interaction with the life that unfolds before me. The window frame is an important aspect to my original Fine Art installations because the window clearly suggests the nature of perspective; that all perspectives are different. No matter how close in proximity two windows are to one another, it is impossible for both windows to frame an identical view. Therefore, the window in my work represents a filter through which a viewer can wholesomely sense the vantage point of another - a window of experience so to speak.

My shooting technique is simple; when a form demands my attention I observe it with my camera. I do not use any equipment to enhance a scene while I photograph it because it is important to let the subject direct the focus and momentum of the shoot. I often tweak a photograph after I have shot it in an effort to evoke, via color saturation, contrast, texture, etc., a reaction similar to my experience, but the subject itself will always set the scene. I don’t create the magic in the moment, I just capture it.”
